Imagine having a wardrobe full of garments that fit us perfectly, that are durable, fit your physique, size, color scheme and style. This wardrobe contains all kinds of clothes: dresses, tops, pants, coats, blazers, shoes, accessories, bags.
Since each of them meets our parameters - as detailed above - we can combine these with each other in so many different ways, we can quickly create a lot of outfits in the morning without thinking, so this is the capsule wardrobe.
The capsule wardrobe is a collection of necessary and essential but versatile pieces made of high quality materials that can be easily combined and transformed with modern accessories. Because of timeless design, this collection does not go out of fashion quickly. This clothing selection can become a solid base for your wardrobe, whether you are a business executive or a full-time mother.
Every woman needs reliable pieces she can count on, fitting perfectly to her body-shape, enhancing the best part of her.
There are different ideas and opinions about how many pieces should be included in the capsule wardrobe, but we think this is entirely up to the individual.
If you are not the dress type of girl there is no need to fill up you closet with LBDs and basic dresses, little black skirt and pants can be also very good base of your wardrobe. Capsule Wardrobe consists of classic dresses, skirts, shirts, trousers and coats, which can then be combined with seasonal and trendy pieces.
The term refers to a collection of clothing that is composed of interchangeable items only, to maximise the number of outfits that can be created. The aim is to have an outfit suitable for any occasion without owning excessive items of clothing.
Why should you create a capsule wardrobe?
At first, a lot of people say, “Oh, I love dressing so much, I don’t want to wear the same!”. Meanwhile, we still have the feeling, “What should I wear today? I don't have a dress ...”
Well, that’s what we’ve never felt since we started actively using the capsule wardrobe. There is no time, event, morning, evening, when we would not be able to catch a minimum of 3-4 outfits in a matter of seconds, and 15-20 minutes would not pass in the morning to try and change.
If these questions and thoughts sound familiar to you, then perhaps it’s time for a change!
What’s a functional capsule wardrobe like? WHY is this a good concept?
In the ideal world of the capsule wardrobe all elements can be combined with each other, for any occasion, every morning, after a few minutes of thinking, we can come up with several outfits, get dressed in minutes, feel pretty, be satisfied and voilà, you’re ready!
This wardrobe mainly consists of timeless, classic, enduring basics that allow you to wear them over and over again. The price/quality ratio is advantageous, even if the pieces are considered investments – they’re not crappy, cheap, fast fashion pieces.
Going away for a few days or on vacation is never a problem; it’s quick and practical to pack, and you always feel stylish.
Over the years, we’ve come to understand that every woman needs reliable pieces of clothing that she can count on every day, pieces that perfectly suit her style and define her
While the basic principles of a capsule wardrobe are very much integrated and uniform, the individual is what makes it unique and personalised. Because of this, it’s never boring or monotonous, but rather subjective and customised.
Importantly, it’s a concept with a purpose, a conscious consumer behaviour – since it eliminates the accumulation of unnecessary clothes, puts limits on impulse purchases, and favours good quality clothes over fast-fashion pieces. In essence, it’s built on long-lasting quality clothing
There’s no right number of pieces: it depends on each individual’s lifestyle, personal style, and pace of life, so each capsule wardrobe must be created individually according to each person’s needs.
The capsule wardrobe of a doctor whose hobby is dogs will differ from that of a career professional with 3 kids, even if they have the same body shape, colour style and measurements. There may be similarities, but for it to work, lifestyle and personal style are the most important components.
What are the general “rules” of a capsule wardrobe?
Conscious wardrobe - investing in the long run
The capsule wardrobe is a creative process of self-knowledge, where we finally get to the fact that we can excitingly “buy” from our wardrobe, it will be a pleasure not to shop for aimless but trendy pieces. Fast fashion pieces usually don’t last a season. Even with care, good quality washing and treatment, they can’t extend their lifespan as they are not made to look immaculate for years.
If we just look at the prices, it is obviously easier to choose the cheaper product, but this is how we lose awareness, in which the capsule limit is a very XXI. century, environmentally conscious solution, as we buy less, we do not support fast fashion companies, we wear a piece of clothing much more often, we reduce unnecessary purchases.
It’s no secret, good quality clothes are much more expensive. We are used to terribly cheap prices, and compared to them, it obviously seems like a serious investment to build a base wardrobe made of quality - not luxury - clothes.
You don’t have to buy everything right away, you probably can’t always find everything. It is worth thinking about how many times we will wear it, how durable it will be, not to mention whether the raw material and tailoring are suitable, whether it can be worn in years to come, so whether the investment is worth the price / value ratio. (I may have to buy the same fast fashion version 5-8x in the same amount of time).
How do you add a new piece of clothing to the capsule wardrobe?
If you have reached the last step and already have the final capsule wardrobe, the following question is obvious: How to proceed? How can I add any new garment to a well-built system?
Is the perfect capsule wardrobe ready so I can't buy new clothes anymore? Regardless of how you design your wardrobe , you can still buy new pieces, but keep in mind the following "rules":
Are you creating your first capsule wardrobe now, or would you redesign your existing one?
Be at any stage of the capsule wardrobe “project”: you are creating your first capsule wardrobe, or you are redesigning or expanding it, you will need a guide!
There are countless methods and theories for designing a capsule wardrobe. Fashion professionals also have different opinions on this issue - some suggest 10, 22, 33 or even more garments - so we can easily get lost in the sea of numbers and trends.
In fact, we don’t want to tell you how many pieces of clothing you need to keep in your wardrobe, nor whose opinion you should follow, we’d rather just show a few basic rules you can tailor to your own life and style.
