Must-Have Pieces for Every Wardrobe

by EW Group on June 14, 2017

Dressing elegantly is sometimes easier said than done. When you’re looking for an outfit for a long day of office meetings or a special occasion, you’ll often find your wardrobe has turned against you and you simply can’t find the right pieces to combine to create the perfect outfit. But there is a solution. Having some key pieces in your closet that can easily be combined with others will save you time and a lot of stress! Here’s our list of absolute must-haves for your closet:

  1. A crisp white shirt

They say you only need a few good quality clothing items, and this is definitely one of them. A well-fitting, simple, crisp white shirt is essential. Take the time to look for the perfect one and do not compromise under any circumstances. Make sure your shirt is always impeccably clean (a stain on a white shirt stands out, unfortunately) and neatly ironed for a polished, elegant look.

  1. A black skirt

It might not be everyone’s thing, but a well-tailored black pencil skirt can save you precious minutes when you’re deciding what outfit to wear. Your skirt should be knee-length and highlight your figure without being too tight. If you’re not into the classic pencil cut, we recommend the A-Line or skater variations.

  1. The LBD

Karl Lagerfeld once said ‘One is never over-dressed or under-dressed with a Little Black Dress’, and we couldn’t agree more. The LBD is your wardrobe’s trump card and can be elegant or casual depending on the occasion. There are no strict rules when it comes to this type of dress: any shape, style and material can be suitable as long as you feel comfortable in it. It’s truly versatile, so you can wear it all year long, no matter the season. Accessorise it with some colourful statement pieces!

  1. The perfect shoes

We recommend having a both a pair of elegant, plain black shoes and a pair of nude ones that you can perfectly mix and match with your outfits. If you feel comfortable in heels, opt for those with a reasonable height (4-inch stilettos might not be the ideal choice), or pick a pair of ballerinas or Oxford shoes in a plain shade.

  1. A practical bag

You may not be Carrie Bradshaw, but everyone needs at least one handbag! When choosing a bag, make sure it’s a convenient size (clutches and small bags are not practical for everyday use), the right colour (i.e. it matches your coat, jacket and shoes) and made of good quality materials. Authentic leather is more durable than synthetic versions.

With these five essential pieces, you’ll be ready to take on the day!
